Knowledge Mobilization Grants - 2024 Call for Proposals

Purpose of the Knowledge Mobilization Grants

The 2024 IfP Knowledge Mobilization (KMb) grant program aims to support dissemination of knowledge generated from pandemic-focused research and engagement of knowledge users, stakeholders, and decision-makers to impact on policy and practice. The funds can help to cover costs associated with KMb such as, but not limited to, meetings, communications, and reports.

Grant Information

Amount of Funding Available in 2024

Total funding of $20,000 (up to $5,000 per award)

Number of grants to be awarded

A minimum of 4 grants will be awarded. Depending on the budgets submitted by successful applicants, IfP will aim to award the maximum number of grants that the total funding envelope allows.

Grant Duration

Funds must be used by the end of the 2024 calendar year.

Duplicate Funding

There is no restriction to combine this award with other funds to cover the expenses associated with the KMb initiative.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be members of the Institute for Pandemics (by completing the Registration Form) and hold a primary appointment at the University of Toronto.
  • The proposed KMb initiative must be based on interdisciplinary research work (i.e., Involving two or more disciplines).
  • Proposals are not to fund new research. Thus, any proposals with costs to conduct research in the budget, will not be awarded.

Important Dates

  • Call for applications – March 27, 2024
  • Deadline to submit applications (through the online system) – April 30, 2024
  • Anticipated notice of award – June 1, 2024
  • Funding start date – June 1, 2024

Application

All applications must be submitted, using the online submission form, by 11:59pm ET on April 30, 2024.

Adjudication

Applications will be reviewed by the IfP Leadership team who will make recommendations to the IfP Steering Committee for the final award decision. 

Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Alignment with the key research themes of the Institute for Pandemics
  • Proposal is based on research that clearly demonstrates interdisciplinarity
  • Engagement of knowledge users, stakeholders, and decision-makers
  • Potential impact on policy and practice
  • Feasibility to conduct event or complete work before the end of 2024

Reporting requirements

  • Final summary and impact report due 1 month after the end of funding.
  • Principal applicant will invite and/or keep IfP informed of any meetings, events, or media attention resulting from use of the funds.
  • Acknowledgement of the support of the University of Toronto and the Institute for Pandemics is required.

FAQ

  1. How do I become a member of IfP?
  2. May I be a co-applicant on an application as an outside (non-UofT) researcher, so long as a UofT faculty member is the principal applicant?
    • Yes, we welcome inclusion, partnerships and collaboration. However, we are not able to award funds directly to members of other institutions, including faculty with a primary appointment outside U of T.
  3. Are students or postdoctoral fellows able to apply for the KMb grants?
    • Students or postdoctoral fellows are not able to apply as principal applicants but are encouraged to be listed as co-applicants.
  4. What expenses are eligible for the KMb grants?
