Dr. dos Santos is Professor of Medicine and a Clinician-Scientist at the University of Toronto. Her clinical appointment is that of staff physician, Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine (CCM), Saint Michael’s Hospital (SMH).  She is a Scientist at the Keenan Center for Biomedical Research, appointed to the Institute of Medical Sciences, cross-appointed to the Departments of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and Physiology. She is a member of the Collaborative Graduate Program in Genome Biology and Bioinformatics and the Canadian Critical Care Trials (CCCTG) and Translational Biology Groups (CCCTBG). She holds the Pitts Research Chair in Acute and Emergency Medicine. Dr. dos Santos’s research is aimed at building a world-class program in translational acute care medicine. Her program has three distinct domains: 1) patient-based discovery (omics/bioinformatics); 2) in-vitro mechanistic research (cell models); and 3) in-vivo pre-clinical research (transgenic animal models). Her laboratory is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the National Research Council of Canada and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Her collaborative research is committed to advancing knowledge and developing strategies to reduce the human and public cost of infectious burden and help prepare us for future pandemics.
