Assistant Professor
Institute of Biomedical Engineering

Omar F. Khan is the Canada Research Chair in Nucleic Acid Therapeutics and is a Professor in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (BME) and the Department of Immunology at the University of Toronto. Omar is also an Associate Director Research, BME. He earned his B.A.Sc. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto and was supervised by biomaterial pioneer Michael Sefton. He was a Postdoctoral Associate and Research Scientist in the labs of Daniel Anderson and Robert Langer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he developed new nanomaterials.

Currently, Omar creates and deploys new classes of therapeutic nucleic acids, applies supramolecular concepts to ionizable lipid design, leverages biomaterial fundamentals to control the immune response to nanoparticles, and pre-designs nanomaterials with better pharmacokinetic and toxicology profiles.
